Announcing: Children of the Light (Darkside)

The next name for Coded Matter(s) #5: Coding the Club is a really exciting one to announce. Everyone who was lucky enough to attend one of those mythical Darkside shows (the one during Trouw @ Concertgebouw was one of last year’s highlights) has already been introduced to this work of Children of the Light.

Children of the Light is the collaboration of Amsterdam-based visual artists Christopher Gabriel and Arnout Hulskamp. Both known as resident stage designers and visual artists at Trouw, they teamed up and gained acclaim with their live scenography for producer Nicolaas Jaar and guitarist Dave Harrington’s project Darkside. As a team, they’ve been touring the world and will be coming to Amsterdam during 5 Days Off, both for a Darkside show in the Melkweg on Wednesday (completely sold out, sorry!) and a DJ set in Trouw on Thursday (probably going to be one of the more epic cues in front of Trouw this year).

During Coding the Club, Children of the Light will tell us about their ‘Mirror Moon’ (seen on the right), their development and the tools they use to make the magic happen. But primarily, they’ll be giving us an insight into how this show is not just made by them, but as a team effort; a synergy between the whole crew of musicians, designers and technicians working together in development as well as live on stage.

Everyone who is interested in enticing new stage designs and creating new experiences as and together with live performers: this is a showcase you do not want to miss!

The Darkside show on Wednesday is sold out, the cue on Friday for the DJ set in Trouw will be huge, but you can still buy tickets to see the ‘making of’ at Coding the Club!
