‘Extended Senses’ App by Hotpixel

For the seventh edition of Coded Matter(s) we commissioned interaction designer Josué Ibáñez and sound designer Eduardo Jiménez to work on the application ‘Extended Senses’. Both designers are from Hotpixel, an interactive studio based in Mexico and part of the collective COCOLAB. This collaboration came forth out of earlier partnerships between FIBER and Hotpixel; we collaborated before for FIBER festival 2012 (Amsterdam) and OFFF MX 2013 festival (Mexico City).

We’re honoured to present you the application ‘Extended Senses’. With the use of this environment we created the visual identity, flyers, video bumpers and sound design for the event scenography.

The concept
The application is based on the concept of the skin. As humans we use this organic material as an interface to the world, sensing our surroundings. With this in mind, the audiovisual application becomes a journey to the inside of the skin. In this space, technology becomes like an integrated part of the skin organ, blurring the boundaries between the two worlds of organic and technological.

The software
The application software was created in TouchDesigner a visual development platform that combines the power of 3D compositions and realtime manipulation that interacts with Max/MSP, a tool where the immersive audio is generated.

The app
You can download the app for yourself and play around with it to your heart’s desire here. Below are some screens from the app environment.
