Transmaterials: Mission Accomplished!

The mission that was Coded Matter(s) #3: Transmaterials has been accomplished, making the third edition of our series about the influence of code in music, design and art both a fact and a success.

During the afternoon, in a beautiful setting with piano music and a shining sun, a well-filled class followed Quayola’s words and images on a journey through the development of The Sculpture Factory (tomorrow is your last chance to see it if you haven’t yet!), his ‘Captives’ project based on Michaelango’s never-finished ‘Prigioni’ series of sculptures and his custom software package ‘Dedalo’. The masterclass was rounded off with a tour of Additive Industries’ AddLab facilities, where the participants marvelled at the cutting-edge 3D printing and layering facilities that are used by various companies and institutes there.

The evening programme featured a very concise introduction by Dr. Ann-Sophie Lehmann, who introduced the importance of thinking about the relation between material and code, with some great teapot references. After this, artist Andreas Nicolas Fischer and art director Quayola both did talks in their own unique style about the transmaterials they research and show in their work. After our moderator Michel van Dartel rounded up the questions and concluded the talks, it was out with the chairs and in with the patch cables as Fah performed a live synth set. Robin Koek of Artefakt laid out the night’s fini as the lights went low and the drinks flowed.

How will we top this next time? More news about that soon!
For now, thank you to everyone who made this possible and to all for attending and enjoying this programme,

See you next time at Coded Matter(s)!
